AbstractAbstract PDFePub
Purpose
This study aimed to identify the mediating effect of dyadic coping and the actor–partner effects of infertility-related stress, dyadic coping, and subjective happiness among infertile couples by applying the actor–partner interdependence mediation model.
Methods
A total of 115 infertile couples, comprising women diagnosed with primary infertility and their spouses, participated in an online survey. Data were collected between November 17, 2022 and January 9, 2023, and analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 25.0 and SmartPLS version 4.0.9.2 with the path weighting scheme. Bootstrapping with 5,000 resamples was performed to estimate 95% confidence intervals.
Results
Significant correlations were observed between infertile women and their spouses in infertility-related stress, dyadic coping, and subjective happiness, indicating mutual psychological influence within couples. Infertility-related stress in both women and spouses had actor effects on their own dyadic coping and subjective happiness. Women’s dyadic coping had an actor effect on their own subjective happiness, whereas spouses’ dyadic coping had a partner effect on women’s subjective happiness. Among women with infertility, dyadic coping significantly mediated the association between infertility-related stress and subjective happiness. A significant partner-mediated effect was also observed for women’s subjective happiness, whereas no significant mediating effect was found for spouses’ own subjective happiness.
Conclusion
Infertility-related stress was associated with subjective happiness through dyadic coping among women with infertility. In addition, spouses’ infertility-related stress was indirectly associated with women’s subjective happiness through spouses’ dyadic coping. These findings suggest that interventions designed to strengthen dyadic coping may help reduce infertility-related stress and improve subjective happiness among infertile couples.

J Korean Acad Nurs 2020;50(1):1-13.   Published online January 31, 2020

Abstract Purpose:

The purpose of this study was to construct and test a structural equation model on nursing work outcomes based on Youssef and Luthans’ positive psychological capital and integrated conceptual framework of work performance.

Methods:

This study used a structured questionnaire administered to 340 nurses. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling.

Results:

Positive psychological capital showed indirect and direct effects on job satisfaction, retention intention, organizational citizenship behavior, and nursing performance. While, the nursing work environment had direct and indirect effects on job satisfaction and nursing performance, it only had indirect effects on intention to work and organizational citizenship behavior. Additionally, a mediating effect on retention intention and organizational citizenship behavior was found between job satisfaction and nursing performance variables.

Conclusion:

The nursing organization needs to build a supportive work environment and reinforce positive psychological capital to improve nursing performance. Additionally, it needs to actively manage the necessary parameters involved in the stages of job satisfaction, retention intention, nursing performance, and organizational citizenship behavior of nurses. The findings propose the continuous management of nursing personnel based on nurses’ attitude outcome, behavioral intention, behavioral outcome, and stage of role performance.

The Effects of an Empowerment Education Program for Kidney Transplantation Patients
Sung Hee Kim, Hye Sook You
J Korean Acad Nurs 2017;47(4):445-455.   Published online August 31, 2017
DOI: https://doi.org/10.4040/jkan.2017.47.4.445
AbstractAbstract PDF
Purpose

This study was conducted to develop an Empowerment Education Program (EEP) for kidney transplant patients and to test the program's effects on uncertainty, self-care ability, and compliance.

Methods

The research was conducted using a nonequivalent control group with a pretest-posttest design. The participants were 53 outpatients (experimental group: 25, control group: 28) who were receiving hospital treatment after kidney transplants. After the pre-test, patients in the experimental group underwent a weekly EEP for six weeks. The post-test was conducted immediately after, and four weeks after the program's completion in the same manner as the pre-test. For the control group, we conducted a post-test six and ten weeks after the pre-test, without and program intervention. A repeated measure ANOVA was performed to compare the change scores on main outcomes.

Results

Uncertainty was significantly lower in the experimental group than in the control group, both immediately after (t=-3.84, p=<.001) and 4 weeks after (t=-4.51 p=<.001) the program, whereas self-care ability (t=5.81, p=<.001), (t=5.84, p=<.001) and compliance (t=5.07, p=<.001), (t=5.45, p=<.001) were significantly higher.

Conclusion

Kidney transplant patients who underwent an EEP showed a decrease in uncertainty and an improvement in self-care ability and compliance. Thus, our findings confirmed that an EEP can be an independent intervention method for improving and maintaining the health of kidney transplant patients.
